The Brooklyn Roasting Company is a trendy cafe in Kitahama, Osaka. You can access Kitahama from Yodoyabashi station on the Mido-suji subway line, or it’s a leisurely 20minute walk from Osaka Umeda.
The layout is nice. There’s an embedded flower shop to the right as you walk in. There are comfortable couches, a square table in the centre that about 10 or so people can share, and other tables on the walls. There are power outlets and there is Wifi (that actually works) available – Hallelujah!
Outside overlooking the river is a terrace with more tables and benches. The view is great and occasionally boats will pass by leaving their wake.
The menu is simple, but “Today’s Drip Coffee” and “Today’s Espresso” rotate.
I was introduced to this cafe by a Coffee Crawl Meetup in Osaka. We had a Meetup scheduled for 9:00am to beat the crowd, but unfortunately they said they could only open at 10:00am. We ended up going to Northshore just down the road who open at 7:00am have some very nice breakfast and brunch sets, and have some great coffee. So on the day of the Meetup we never actually went here, but I actually checked it out a weekend before, then once again after the Meetup. The cosy hipster environment grew on me and I imagined getting some blog work done while sitting back and enjoying a coffee there, with complimentary Wifi.
A new branch of Brooklyn Roasting Company opened in Suita, Expo Park in November 2015. It’s part of the Lalaport shopping centre there. You can check out my review of that shop here.

I was very impressed by the Ethiopian Natural Drip Coffee. Fair enough, I read the description with “Very Very Blueberry, Fragrant, Elegant, Intense” and as a result consciously went searching for a Blueberry flavour. But I was very impressed to taste blueberry and have that taste intensified as the coffee cooled down. I drank this drip coffee black, no sugar as I do with all coffees.
