Brooklyn Roasting Company – Expo City (ブルックリンロースティングカンパニー) ららぽーと EXPOCITY店
I first visited Brooklyn Roasting Company in Kitahama, and after liking it I also visited South Swell in Honmachi. After talking to the friendly staff, they mentioned they were opening a new shop at the Expo City shopping and entertainment complex in Suita, Osaka. You can access Expo City from the Osaka Monorail.
Expo City opened last month and at the moment it is extremely crowded on weekends. I visited to also see a movie on IMAX and found that almost every restaurant and cafe had a large queue.
Brooklyn Roasting Company is a separate from the other cafes and restaurants. It’s located on the 1st floor in the corner amongst street clothing stores. When you approach the entrance to Expo City, notice the 109 Cinemas IMAX immediately ahead and turn right. Go up one escalator and Brooklyn Roasting Company will be on your left.
At the moment the branding isn’t very obvious. There is a Mural like company logo on the back wall, but this is difficult to see from the outside. There is a small chalkboard indicating a cafe is there, but this has no obvious branding and is easy to miss amongst all the other stores with blazing logos above their entrances.
I expected a queue because there was even a queue at the quiet Kitahama store. However, not many people must know about the Expo City store yet because I was able to go straight in and claim a seat before proceeding to the counter to order.
They have Outpost sandwiches from the City Bakery and a small selection of muffins and sweets. At the time I visited, the scone flavours were quite bizarre. Maple and Bacon or Rum and Raisin.
Their signature coffee tins are displayed over the order counter and the drip coffee they serve changes each day. They didn’t have a menu board on the counter showing today’s coffee like they do at the Kitahama shop. South Swell also didn’t have a menu board. In both places I asked what drip coffee and espresso they were serving. Most people probably don’t care, but I’m very interested in comparing different coffee origins and exploring a variety of tastes much like wine. So if you want to check out Expo City for a movie, shopping, the aquarium or any other reason, why not drop by Brooklyn Roasting Company for a delicious cup of coffee and maybe a snack. Chances are you won’t have to wait as long as other places.
