New instructional video for my favourite French Press Coffee method; inspired by YouTube influencer and World Barista Champion James Hoffmann.

French Press is an immersion method, different to percolating methods such as pour over coffee. It tastes similar to “cupping” which is reliably used to taste several coffees at the same time. I like to make a French Press as soon as I try some new beans because it’s a good control experiment. I gives me the full flavour profile of the coffee beans with oils and everything intact. After that I often work to refine that flavour using more precise methods like pour over to enhance the particular flavours I’m looking for. I often make a French Press and a pour over at the same time, then drink the both for comparison.

This method by James Hoffmann is a slow and luxurious method to brew coffee in a French Press. The result is quite refined and similar to pour over coffee. It takes time though, so if you’re in a rush for a coffee fix, maybe try a more convenient method like a pod machine, instant or ready made coffee.
