A Scenic Journey to Kibune

Nestled in the mountains just north of Kyoto, Kibune offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city. To reach this charming village, we embarked on a scenic journey. From Kawaramachi Station, we took a train to Demachiyanagi Station. From there, a bus ride took us to Kibuneguchi Station, the gateway to Kibune.

Exploring the Tranquil Village

As we stepped off the bus, we were greeted by the serene atmosphere of Kibune. The village is known for its picturesque Kibune River, which winds its way through the lush greenery. We took a leisurely stroll along the riverbank, admiring the beautiful scenery and the traditional wooden houses that line its shores.

Discovering Hidden Temples

Kibune is home to several ancient temples, each offering a unique glimpse into the region’s rich history. We visited Kibune Shrine, a Shinto shrine nestled in a peaceful forest. The shrine’s main hall is supported by wooden pillars that extend into the river, creating a stunning and unusual sight.

Indulging in a Kawadoko Experience

One of the highlights of our trip was dining at a Kawadoko restaurant. These unique restaurants feature outdoor seating platforms built over the river, offering breathtaking views and a truly immersive experience. We enjoyed a delicious set course meal at Kibunejaya, a popular Kawadoko restaurant known for its fresh ingredients and traditional Japanese cuisine. While we were lucky enough to walk in without a reservation, it’s highly recommended to make a reservation, especially during peak season. Set meals typically start from 7000 yen, and please note that many Kawadoko restaurants only accept cash payments.
